SIDE EFFECTS OF PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors)
Over the past 15-years, there have been many clinical and research studies, done on the side effects of long term use of the H2 Antagonist (PPIs). Even though there is sufficient evidence to curtail the long term use of these products, they are still being actively promoted, by the pharmaceutical companies and many doctors.
The following are some of the long term side effects listed on the internet about Proton Pump Inhibitors:
FOOD AND DRUG ADMINSTRATION (FDA) Broad Base Warning: PPI cause Alteration of Absorption of Vitamins, Minerals, and have a Metabolic effect on Bone Density, Drug Interaction or Alteration of Intended effect Infraction Risk, Hypersensitivity Response with Consequent Organ Damage.
Impaired Vascular Health, PPIs Interfere with the ability of blood vessels to relax. Dr. John Cooke, M.D., Ph.D. Dept. of Cardiovascular Sciences, Center for Cardiovascular Regulation at the Houston Methodist, De Bakey Heart and Vascular Ctr.
Long term use of PPIs increase the risk of osteoporosis related fractures, side effects of PPIs; headaches, constipation, abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea, and rash. Doctor of Gastroenterology
Chronic use of PPIs may lead to confusion, delirium and dementia. All PPIs associated with low Magnesium blood levels. Dr. Ray Sahelian, M.D.
Withdraw symptoms, from long term use of PPIs, nausea, abdominal pain, headaches, dizziness, lack of energy. Dr. Suanne Goodrich, Lynn Health Science Institute, Oklahoma City, OK.

PPI related to Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Chronic Gastritis, H. Pylori. Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis. American Journal of Medicine
PPI related to H. Pylori Bacterial Infection, World Journal of Gastroenterology
PPIs cause enteric Malabsorption, Inhibit Gastric Secretions, Acid, Pepsin, Intrinsic Factor, Vitamin C., Iron, Vitamin B-12, causes painful and restless legs. Archives of International Medicine
Excessive Acid Hyper secretion, in excess of normal after stopping the use of PPIs. American Journal of Medicine.
Increased use of PPIs, associated with Carcinoid Tumors, H. Pylori, Atrophic Gastritis. American Journal of Medicine.
Food Allergies and Esophagitis, and Esoinophilic Esophagitis caused by PPI use. American Journal of Medicine
Many doctors are prescribing PPIs to patients, without knowing if their esophageal reflux (GERD) is caused by the over production of Hydrochloric acid (HCL), or caused by the under production of HCL. The over production of acid is called Hyperchlorhydria, the under production of acid is called Hypochlorhydria. Both of these conditions, will cause reflux, gas, belching, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation and/or diarrhea, nausea, etc. Many doctors assume these symptoms are only indicative of the over production of acid (hyperchlorhydria), when in fact the opposite may be true. It is virtually impossible to diagnose either of these conditions without a pH diagnostic test. A pH diagnostic test, pH capsule test, or gastrogram is the most accurate test available, for diagnosing digestive disorders, in the first stage of digestion.
Don’t take our word for it, check it out on the web, and search the net for the side effects of PPIs. You do not have to take PPIs for reflux, there are natural medications that will not hurt your body.
